Dock Mennonite Academy in Lansdale, Pa., won the Pennsylvania Class 1A baseball state championship June 12 at Penn State University’s Medlar Field at Lubrano Park in State College.
The Pioneers defeated Eden Christian Academy 5-3 behind a solo home run and RBI triple by junior Ethan Kratz, son of former Major League Baseball catcher Erik Kratz. The hits came on the first two pitches he saw in the game.
Erik Kratz graduated in 1998 from Dock and in 2002 from Eastern Mennonite University. He made his MLB debut in 2010 with the Pittsburgh Pirates and retired in 2020, having been a member of 14 teams. He was hired as Dock varsity baseball coach in 2025 after coaching Dock’s middle school team for two years.
The championship is Dock’s fourth state title and first since 2010.
