The new hymnal, Voices Together, expands our worship and broadens our invitation (“Make the chorus swell,” Nov. 27). As noted in the accompanying article, “Hymns use diverse images for God,” the Mennonite Worship and Song Committee obviously recognizes that the different names and language used for God may be unsettling to some. There are no suitable appellations for God. We cannot properly define Life or Light or even Love, so how dare we define God, except as evident in the eternal Spirit in Christ?
