I grew up in a Plain Anabaptist church and served in alternative service — an alternative to military service, not resistance to it. We knew the passage that says, “Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves” (Romans 13:2, NKJV). “Defunding the police” is nothing new. Some people have been caught up in withholding taxes for the military. But the worst is a movement in the “peace churches” to deny the sacrificial atonement of Jesus and teaching a “nonviolent atonement.” How can this bring peace? Jesus paid it all on the cross, and the call is to repent.
