Regarding the Alternatives to Military Enlistment Network (AMEN) project (“Military counter-recruitment network is planned,” May 6): As a young adult, I worked with several at-risk young adults who were previously unemployable or underemployed. All of these young men had either been in trouble or had addiction issues. Today, all but two are productive members of society. In all the years I did this, there was only one person who didn’t respond well. He chose six years in the Marines. I believe there are better ways than military action to solve problems. I also believe our youth need structure and discipline. I am a member of the Disciples of Christ. Perhaps there is common ground.
