I will not be renewing my subscription, and I’d kindly like to tell you why. I am an Old Order Mennonite, part of Weaverland Conference from Lancaster County, Pa. I subscribed because I wanted to know what’s going on in the broader Mennonite world. I soon found out. First came editor Paul Schrag’s endorsement of Kamala Harris; then the response, “Why Many of Us Voted for Trump”; followed by vitriolic letters that I could barely believe came from members of supposedly peace churches. May I respectfully plead with you all to repent of your political activism and focus on Jesus, who is neither Democrat nor Republican?
You condemn Christian nationalism but then support almost every liberal Democratic policy, like the protection of immigrants, while never speaking against the murder of unborn children. Another glaring example is repeatedly highlighting the crimes of Israel but rarely mentioning the crimes of Hamas. Does nationality make some murders less offensive than others?
Maybe you’ve put me in the box of a pro- Israel, fundamentalist Republican. Not so. I have never voted, and I never will, because both parties are equal parts of an idolatrous system that distracts Christians from serving Jesus. I believe the Republican Party and Christian nationalism are false gods just as much as the Democratic Party and the liberal globalism of the West.
I regret that I won’t be getting the parts of your magazine I enjoy, but I do not want my middle-school children exposed to the parts that embrace left-wing politics more than the teachings of Jesus.

AW did not endorse Kamala Harris. The September editorial, “World Gained, Soul Lost,” critiqued evangelical Christians’ support for Donald Trump. — Editor
