I am a descendant of the group on whose journey Dale Hildebrand intends to focus (“Canadian filmmaker: no whitewash in story of migration from Russia,” January). A personal relationship with Aboriginal friends, since my teens, has revealed to me how much I/we did not learn from our sincerely grateful folks, who settled in Manitoba and elsewhere in Canada. The attitude of my father toward our Aboriginal neighbors was startling to me, a naive youngster and teen. Few of my elders told personal stories of our ancestors’ journeys. They seemed unaware or deliberately silent. Therefore, I am deeply interested in Hildebrand’s work. I look forward to the fulfillment of its goals and mission.
