“God Controls the Weather,” about Amish skepticism of human-caused climate change, brought back memories of words in a booklet given to me by a hitchhiker I picked up. The title was Love Letters from the Universe by Henry C. Watson. Each letter began with the greeting “Be­loved” and ended with “I Am That Which Is.”

For me, “That Which Is” is a good description of the indescribable mystery of God. God is That Which Is the Weather, That Which Is the Climate — the oneness of all that exists, including the be­loved Amish with their horse-and-buggy skepticism of their English neighbors with fast cars and TVs promoting the reality of climate change. We are That Which Is — each of us a part of it all.
