30 minutes, three faith traditions

CBS television affiliates across the U.S. will explain a bit about Mennonites later this month.

CBS Religion and Culture visited the Mennonite Heritage Center in Harleysville, Pa., Nov. 3 to film interviews for one third of a half-hour “World Religions” interfaith special.

The annual program, which will begin airing in some markets Dec. 14, asks three faiths to share their beliefs, traditions, histories and modern voice. This year’s “explainer” show will feature Mennonites, Sikhs and Seventh-day Adventists.

‘Come let us all unite to sing’ all night long

GOSHEN, Ind. — Bobby Switzer did not grow up going to church or singing, but he has become passionate about hymns and congregational music since coming to Goshen College four years ago.

When he started the Goshen College Hymn Club in 2012, little did he know that he would end up singing through every verse of all 658 hymns in Hymnal: A Worship Book, in a 30-hour marathon of song.

Prayer ‘essential’ for MWC assembly

Mennonite World Conference is establishing a Prayer Network, recognizing the importance of prayer in preparation for its global assembly July 21-26 in Harrisburg, Pa.

“We are organizing an event which will bring people together from all over the world,” said Lynn Roth, MWC North America representative. “I believe it can happen only if it is bathed in prayer and is God’s doing.”

The first worry on everyone’s mind is obtaining visas.
