I’ve heard Mary Oyer tell the story behind “606” [“Dedication Anthem”] many times. An example of the joyfulness of this song happened to us while we served in Jamaica with Mennonite Central Committee. In the summer of 1976, I believe, Outspoken, a Mennonite bicycle team, gave a program in a little country Mennonite church. They introduced their final number as “the Mennonite anthem, 606.” There was immediate recognition and excitement for us. For those of us who had been away from our home congregation for a year or two, being able to sing this familiar song was a joyful and worshipful experience.
