I thoroughly enjoyed the insights of “Five Things the World Cup Can Teach Us About Being a Neighbor” (June 26, online) by Alisha and Josh Garber. As a Canadian living in the United States, it was wonderful to see the unity expressed by soccer fans from many nations. The symbolism of all nations streaming to Jerusalem and the temple of God has not been lost on me. One of the most profound experiences I’ve had, like that reminder, was standing in the Sistine Chapel with thousands of other people facing the mural of the Last Judgment behind the altar. All of us who are alive today have a place in the kingdom of God, and in Christ there is unity with the Holy Spirit. Prayerful consideration of Philippians 2:1-11, the ancient catechism of the early church, is helpful here. Peace of Christ always.
