The Brethren in Christ U.S. denomination has been awarded a $1.25 million grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. to help establish The Thriving Congregations Initiative.
BIC U.S. aims to help congregations foster ministries that build identity, church health and community connection. Over a three-year period, congregations will receive training, assessment and a $5,000 ministry grant to carry out community outreach.
BIC U.S. hopes 75 congregations participate over the next five years. The first cohort of 25 congregations will be selected in early 2024.
“Our prayer is that these congregations will explore their place among rapid social and cultural changes to better understand their mission,” said BIC U.S. national director Alan Robinson.
BIC U.S. is one of 105 organizations that received grants though the Thriving Congregations Initiative.
