I loved the prayer on the cover of the Aug. 26 issue: “God save the Earth.” Author Steve Thomas notes that, “Yes, we must pray, but we must act. And now.” We must do all the things Thomas tells us: use less fossil fuels, turn to renewable energy, adjust our diet, protect forests and plant trees. But even those actions may not be enough to save us. It may be necessary to halt the growth of our population and achieve a steady-state economy that no longer continues growing and consuming Earth’s natural resources at unsustainable levels. Climate change is the biggest spiritual issue of our lifetimes, and I hope you will address it in every issue.
