Thank you for Hendy Stevan Matahelemual’s beautiful column, “What is your flag?” (Oct. 16). I feel heartened and encouraged; it makes me feel hopeful, because I believe a nationalistic focus on one’s own geographic location only leads to emptiness. Whether we read Philippians or Hebrews or Ephesians or Matahelemual, focusing on being citizens of heaven and sisters and brothers with everyone in our world is the path to a full, rich way of living and loving. I found his essay particularly hopeful during this challenging time.
