Mosaic affiliation resolution updated to add time for discussions

Mosaic Mennonite Conference Mosaic Mennonite Conference

Mosaic Mennonite Conference has updated a resolution to end its membership in Mennonite Church USA and remain in partnership, adding one year to clarify the relationship.

Mosaic delegates will gather Nov. 2 at Souderton Mennonite Church in Pennsylvania to consider recommendations of the Pathway Steering Team to be in collaboration with MC USA rather than membership. The team began a listening process in 2022 to clarify the conference’s priorities. After announcing the recommendations on Aug. 22, it collected responses from delegates as well as feedback and questions from MC USA leadership.

The original resolution would have implemented changes immediately. The new resolution affirms the Pathway team’s recommendation, gives space for conversations with MC USA leaders and calls for bylaw amendments to be developed for the 2025 Mosaic assembly.

“So much changed in the last month in terms of public communications that shaped what kind of partnership could be available,” said Kiron Mateti, a Mosaic board member on the Pathway team, in an Oct. 3 Mosaic release. “This resolution provides more space for clear, healthy discussions between Mosaic staff and MC USA and opportunities to provide more understanding to all about the hard work partnership would entail.”
