We, the rich, should give

The U.S. government is giving millions of dollars to help vaccinate the world. This is the right thing for the world’s richest nation to do. Even thinking selfishly, this could help us in the long run by preventing future viruses from coming to us. But why should we think only of what the government can do? Our people are among the richest, too. Most of us give to worthy organizations. Why shouldn’t we have an organization whose purpose is to supply vaccines to poor nations? There are over 300 million people in the United States. If one person in a thousand gave $100, it would yield $3 million. Is that a drop in the bucket? Let’s not despise small. Jesus fed thousands with a little bread and a few small fish. We are not just talking about money but about lives.
