It was interesting to read the editorial
and news article (December) about Mosaic Mennonite Conference’s consideration of withdrawing membership from Mennonite Church USA in favor of something called a partnership. If membership is so undesirable or onerous, perhaps we should examine some of our other memberships. As a member of a Mosaic congregation, it occurs to me that perhaps it would be beneficial for our church to be a partner with Mosaic rather than a member. The next step is also apparent: Should I be a partner of my congregation rather than a member?

as not mentioned in the December editorial, “Couldn’t We All Be Partners?” Mennonite Church USA has no prohibition against LGBTQ+ inclusion, and I believe this is an issue for Mosaic Mennonite Conference. Mennonite churches need to welcome LGBTQ+ people to full participation in congregational life, including leadership. In the current harsh political climate, we need to be a safe place for them. Let’s not sweep our queer brothers and sisters under the rug in our desire for partnership.
