I came across the sad news that the International Guest House in Washington, D.C., is closing (Mennonite World Review, July 13 and The Mennonite, July 20). I want to thank IGH and all the volunteers for running this special place. This was my first refuge some 10 years ago when I came to the U.S. as a starry-eyed and clueless student to George Washington University. The warmth and welcome from the hosts made me feel I could actually do this, as I was homesick and almost wanted to go back home to Pakistan. My fellow guests and the free internet helped me find my permanent apartment. The 9 o’clock tea was an illuminating opportunity to interact with people from diverse cultures. Thank you to everyone at IGH and Allegheny Conference of Mennonite Church USA for their kindness and hospitality.
