Choice for those who remain

After waking from our dream of inclusive diversity to realize that we’ve tolerated and participated in the abuse and ignoring of the oppressed, Paul Schrag’s “so be it” is a gracious “blessing at the parting of ways” (editorial, Oct. 13). By the time we (largely white) liberals finally confessed our sins, so many conservative congregations had already left Mennonite Church USA that the 2022 vote for the Repentance and Transformation Resolution was virtually inevitable. Now, those who remain are left with a choice: continuing in conflict over forbearing congregational polity and accountable conference policies; or blessing our separated communities for the unity of faith that inspires joyful evangelism and loving service, even as diverse beliefs guide our thoughts and actions.
