Sarah Kehrberg (Cramer Avenue, Nov. 10) accurately portrays Jesus’ earnestness but seems to indicate he had little or no sense of humor. She writes: “He tells no jokes; his stories are not funny. And he’s so intense.” Yet I find myself smiling, even chuckling, at some of the things Jesus said and did. I believe Jesus may have chuckled when he stumped and confounded the Pharisees in their attempts to trick him. He showed his sense of humor in many of the parables. It seems every MWR is full of articles dealing with sexual orientation, division, exclusion, judging and congregations separating from each other. If Jesus was on earth today, would he weep, or might he stump and confound us because of our Pharisaic behavior? And might he smile?
