I deeply resonated with Steve Thomas’ “Planting for Peace” (July). I’ve been to Palestine seven times. Steve’s experience is right in line with mine. Since my first trip to Palestine in 2015 to last November, every time the situation is worse. There is much pain, but also the prevalence of sumud (Arabic for steadfastness). No place have I seen that more than at the Tent of Nations. When Daoud Nassar speaks, the family’s pain is palpable. But even more so are their resilience and hope, something I’ve witnessed throughout Palestine. I encourage more Anabaptists to go and see and then come back and tell.
