Carried through the night

Lord, my heart is bruised and broken, shadows fall across my way;
Not a word of comfort spoken, searching for the light of day.
In the pain I look for meaning, when the night is long and cold;
On Your holy cross I’m leaning, for Your promises of old.

God is good, His love eternal, even when I cannot see.
Though the darkest clouds surround me, He is watching over me.
Jesus promised to be with me, through the shadow and the pain;
I will trust His sovereign mercy, and I will bless His holy name.

I may never know the reason, for this sorrow and this ache,
Why I walk this barren season, why my fragile heart must break.
But I trust Your perfect wisdom, You are good through all my days;
Even in the deepest valley, I will lift a song of praise.

Looking back upon my journey, on the shifting sands of time,
Through the pathways steep and thorny, up the rugged hills I climbed.
In the hours of deepest sorrow, when my bitter tears had run,
While my aching heart was bleeding and my strength was all but gone.

Did You leave me, Lord and Savior, when I had no strength to stand?
Did I lose Your grace and favor, in this dry and weary land?
Then I hear Your Spirit whisper, “Child, I never walked away;
When your wounded spirit faltered, I was carrying you that day.”

God is good, His love eternal, even when I cannot see.
Though the darkest clouds surround me, He is watching over me.
Jesus promised to be with me, through the shadow and the pain;
I will trust His sovereign mercy, and I will bless His holy name.

You were carrying me, my Jesus, when my strength was wholly gone.
God is good, His grace relieves us, as He gently bears us on.
